  3. Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Can I still apply if I am studying abroad right now?

Can I still apply if I am planning on studying abroad at the beginning of or during my time on DSLC?

Yes. Many students within the council have studied abroad at the beginning of or during their time on council.

What does a strong candidate for DSLC membership exemplify?
  1. Commitment to serving CSU Business Students.
  2. Inclusive of all identities, skills, abilities, and contributions.

  4. Record of community service.
What is the time commitment?

How many members are on DSLC?

Typically between 24 and 26. Never more than 30.

What are the attendance requirements?

Attendance at DSLC meetings is mandatory. If a member cannot attend they must contact the Secretary and President before the absence. At two unexcused absences within a given semester, the member will be notified and if a third unexcused absence occurs, membership will be terminated. Excused absences include but are not limited to work, interviews, medical issues, family emergencies, and other instances that will be reviewed on a case by case basis. If a member is more than 15 minutes late to a regularly scheduled meeting without notifying the President or other member of the Executive Board ahead of time, this will count as an unexcused absence. Members must also attend the DSLC events that are laid out at the start of the semester by the Executive Board unless absence is approved far in advance (minimum of 48 hours). Not showing up to an event where you are expected is not tolerated and will result in a full review of membership by the Executive Board. If a member chooses to sign-up for a nonrequired event, it will be their responsibility to find a council member to fulfill their duties if they are unable to complete their shift. If no other council member is available, missing the nonrequired event will count as an unexcused absence.

Application and Interview Process
How many students typically apply for DSLC?

Ten to fifteen students apply each semester. The number of students we accept depends on the current number of members and how many applicants meet the membership criteria.

How long should my answers be on the application?

There are no length requirements for the application, however, we prefer shorter responses that directly answer the question.

How long are the interviews and what can I expect?

Interviews are 30 minutes long. Our goal is to get to know you, understand why you want to be a part of DSLC, and answer any questions you may have. There will be 4-5 current DSLC members who interview you.

May I reschedule my interview if I can’t attend?

We try to accommodate applicants by reserving a whole day for interviews. We strongly prefer that you are interviewed on the specified interview date, however, we will allow you to reschedule if you have extenuating circumstances.

May I request a particular time for my interview?

Yes. All interviews will take place on the same day. Five days to a week before your interview, we will send you a link to choose your interview time slot. Time slots typically range from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Interview scheduling is first-come, first-serve. If you are not available during the listed times, we will work with you to find a time that works.

What should I wear to the interview?

Business professional attire. Treat this interview as you would for a job interview. This applies to virtual interviews.

How can I best prepare for my interview?
  1. Read over your DSLC application and resume.
  2. Reflect on your leadership experiences.
  3. Think of questions you want to ask the interviewers (current DSLC members).
  4. Think of some ideas to improve the College of Business.
Should I bring anything to the interview?

Just yourself(:

When will I be notified if I received an interview?

A few days after the application due date.

What are the most common mistakes applicants make during interviews?
  1. Answering questions based what you think we want to hear.
  2. Talking about how DSLC will improve your resume.
  3. Not answering the questions directly.

Be yourself! We want to get to know the real you and how you want to make an impact on the College of Business.

When will I be notified if I did or did not receive membership to DSLC?

If you are selected, you will receive a phone call the same evening of interviews. If you are not selected, you will receive an email a day or two after the interview date.
